• "Eating with the fullest pleasure - pleasure, that is, that does not depend on ignorance - is perhaps the profoundest enactment of our connection with the world. In this pleasure we experience our dependence and our gratitude, for we are living in a mystery, from creatures we did not make and powers we cannot comprehend." — Wendell Berry

My Farms

2010: A year of growing on Bainbridge Island.

I worked with two amazing mentor farmers on Bainbridge Island, WA. They are:

Betsey Wittick
and Brian MacWhorter.

Betsey and Brian are two very different managers running two very different farming operations, but they both became like family as we worked hard together every day.  I couldn’t have asked for a better intro to farming than I got from these two individuals!

2011: Next steps of my journey.

For my second season of apprenticeship, I lived and worked at

Oxbow Farm

In Carnation, WA.  I wanted to experience a bigger farm and put to work the skills I learned last year!

Luke Woodward and Adam McCurdy are the rockin’ farm managers at Oxbow.  Again I had two bosses, but this time they were co-managers of the same operation, whereas last year Betsey and Brian each ran their own farms but shared their four apprentices.

2012: Leaving the nest

With two fantastic apprenticeships under my belt, I’m obviously ready to start

My Own Farm.
