About me

Becky

2009

Hi, I’m Becky.

For the past three years, I have been moving away from my former life as a software developer into the whole new world of organic vegetable growing.  I started this blog at the beginning of my farming journey to document my experience learning and exploring a new way of life.

I love food… Growing food, cooking food, eating food, and sharing these experiences with others!  In 2010 I did my first full-season apprenticeship, where I lived and worked on two small farms  (5-8 acres each) on Bainbridge Island, WA.  What started out as a tentative experiment that year blossomed into a consuming passion, leading me to do a second apprenticeship at a larger (25 acre) vegetable farm in 2011.

I also liked blogging more than I expected, so I kept it up and kept finding random bits of semi farm-related thoughts to post even during the off season.  Thanks for reading… leave me a comment so I know you were here!

In 2012, I am using my apprenticeships as a jumping-off point to starting my own farming business.  Read more about City Grown Seattle in the “My Farms” section of this blog and at our website www.citygrownseattle.com.
